Text Management

I joined the Text Management team in May 2018 as an IT and Telecoms Technician, and during my tenure worked to become a Senior Systems Engineer with responsibilities including managing IT Security, Audits, Server Infrastructure, Networks and Databases.

Projects

Office Networking Upgrades

The first major project that I was involved in was an upgrade of Text Management's Office network infrastructure, migrating from Juniper NetScreen appliances to a more modern Fortinet system. These upgrades were carried out in order to improve the company's IT security infrastructure, and to provide compliance with Cyber Essentials Plus best practices.

Telephony Systems

In order to assist the business with managing phone calls, I worked with the company to implement a refurbished Avaya IP Office PBX system to improve communications expanding from the company's existing 2x POTS/PSTN lines within the budget constraints of the business.

Server Migrations

Throughout my time at the business, I helped with the migration of servers, which included upgrading servers to more secure modern operating systems, phasing out legacy infrastructure running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2019.

Covid Continuity

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, I was kept on to help ensure business continuity and worked on a number of IT system changes to help continue workflows. These changes included provisioning a VoIP Phone system for communication between staff and customers, as well as rolling out laptops and a new RDS system.

High Availability

One of the bigger projects that was implemented was making the company's services Highly-Available. As part of a client oriented project the company was required to deliver a High-Availability service with guaranteed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

I worked to design an improved infrastructure to help deliver a 99.9% uptime service, which involved moving infrastructure the the Public Cloud and setting up redundant/fail-over instances.
